This class introduces the young beginner to the basic movements and ideas of Karate. Come dressed in clothes that you can move in. This class is designed for students who are new to Karate.
This class introduces the older beginner/young intermediate to the basic movements and ideas of Karate. Students should wear clothes that are comfortable to move in.
This is a class for older Karate students. We will start by going over some of the basics, and add more advanced movements throughout the session, including studying the eight Katas. This class is available to both more beginner and intermediate Karate students.
In this class we will create art across a variety of media, all of which involve an element of play. Projects may include maze making, fortune teller folding, board game design, as well as fun group activities like Pictionary and chameleon hide & seek. Let's cook together! We will explore some basic techniques and then whip up some delicious culinary creations. We will make everything from main courses and side dishes, to appetizers and desserts. Enter the universe of role-playing games! This class will explore role-playing games created specifically for Third and Fourth graders. We will work together to tell stories about our own original characters in worlds we create without having to wade through too many mechanics. We will learn the basics of how to play cooperative storytelling games and romp through narratives about car-racing raccoons, kids with animal familiars and magical powers, and maybe even some superheroes! Have you ever wanted to be the hero of a fantasy tale? Well, here's your chance! D&D and other role-playing games are a great way to do this. We will create our own universe to play in and create new identities. Become a wizard and solve your problems with magic, become a warrior who smashes all their problems away, or become a bard and sing about your problems all day long (or anything in between). We'll learn the basics of role-playing games as we take the game into the real world, by creating characters, getting gear, and having an epic campaign!
Are you missing your days in the Woodshop? Or maybe you've never been? Well, come on down! Students will dive into the world of textiles, learning beginner sewing principles such as basic stitches and simplified embroidery and patchwork/applique versions. Students will learn about sustainable practices of art making, with opportunities to dye creations using natural materials such as indigo and plant-based dyes. All families will register for 16 lessons for the Winter/Spring session regardless of the day of the week they schedule.
$1,200 [Lessons will run from the week of 1/6 through the week of 6/2, with a make-up week reserved a total of 16 lessons]
Instrumental Lessons involve 30 minutes of private instruction, unless otherwise arranged with the teacher and the Afterschool Office. During registration week, families will sign up for a teacher. All lessons will be online, so the day and time of the lesson will be agreed upon by the teacher and family (in general younger children will be given earlier slots when possible). Should a teacher and family not be able to find a time, the Afterschool Office will help the family find another teacher. If nothing can be arranged, a refund will be issued immediately.
